exhibit overview
“Marley was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that.”
—opening lines from A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol is an unexpected and evergreen tale where the haunting of ghosts leads toward the true spirit of Christmas—friendship, kindness and generosity.
In this Friends of Friday Art Project show, we hope a bit of the same spirit that Dickens inspired with his memorable story shows through. During every drawing nite model session, A Christmas Carol was read aloud so that eye and ear could unite inspiration with the creation of these unique portraits. The spirit we hope you experience as you look at these portraits is powerfully expressed in Dickens’ last lines of the story.
“…it was always said of him [Scrooge], that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of all of us!”
